About
Over the Moon opened in May 2007 in Skibbereen, West Cork. It is owned & operated by husband & wife team, Jennifer & Francois Conradie.
Originally from Cape Town, South Africa Francois studied to be a chef at Warwick Chef School in Hermanus, a seaside town on South Africa’s breathtaking Garden Route. After leaving his native country, Francois moved to London, England to ‘hone’ his craft. In his 4 years there he worked at the Notting Hill Brasserie, the 5-star Charlotte Street Hotel & Adam Street Private Members Club in the heart of London’s Theatreland.
It was here in 2003 that he met his future wife Jennifer, who worked in Front of House. Jennifer has an extensive background in hospitality and is passionate about good service & a happy dining room! Together they moved to Cape Town in 2004 where Francois worked at the 5-star Table Bay Hotel under Executive Chef Conrad Gallagher.
Jennifer & Francois married in May 2005 on Clifton Beach in Cape Town, and then moved to Ireland where Jennifer is from. Both worked in Jacobs on the Mall in Cork for almost 2 years until they found premises to open their own restaurant in Skibbereen, West Cork.
Over the Moon seats 25 - 30 people, although plans are afoot to extend. Casual by day with formal white linen by night, this restaurant caters for all tastes. It serves fresh homemade food, most of which is sourced locally in places like Gubbeen, Skeaghanore, Woodcock Smokery, Baltimore Fresh Fish, local butchers & organic growers. Visitors to Over the Moon may choose from an array of great soups, imaginative salads, fresh fish, scallops, steak & duck, as well as from a carefully chosen wine list. Guests will enjoy a relaxed, warm atmosphere, great service, fabulous food & value for money!
